The February Meeting will be on Friday 12th February 2021

The committee will meet at 11am.

There will be a free simple lunch at 12 noon for members, guests and visitors. All welcome. Many teacher retirees come with a partner or friend.

As per pre covid, we will have a guest speaker who will commence at 12.45pm.

Our February speaker will be Dorothy Hoddinott, a relentless advocate for upholding the rights of refugee and asylum seeker students in Australia.

Dorothy was Principal of Holroyd High School from 1995 till 2018. The school featured a large immigrant student cohort and over 60% of students occupied the lowest quartile of socio-economic status. However, Holroyd High achieved well above expectations.

Dorothy is currently the Director of CareerSeekers New Australian Internship Program, an Ambassador for the Refugee Advice and Casework Service and Presiding Pro-Chancellor of the University of Sydney.

Dorothy will be addressing the RTA meeting with stories of social justice and success with students, families and communities.

Following the guest speaker, there will be a short break then a general meeting will be held, which concludes, on or before 3.30pm.

As the past two RTA meetings failed to gain a quorum, the first item on the agenda will be to confirm and ratify decisions made at the AGM

These five are protected by ISDS agreements that Australia has with Hong Kong, Canada and Japan, and which do not have exclusions for such claims.

7. Ian Massingham raised the issue of the Constitution stating that we need 20 members present to form a quorum in General Meetings and the AGM. This issue became problematic after small attendances at the last few meetings, including the AGM. He gave a month’s notice and will move to change the Constitution and reduce the number of members needed to form a quorum at the meetings from 20 to 10. It will be tabled at the February 2021 meeting

The new museum draws on the Nicholson, Macleay and University Art collections.

The Nicholson Collection is the largest collection of antiquities in the southern hemisphere.

The Macleay Collections include some of Australia’s most significant natural history objects.

The University Art Collection comprises more than 8,000 historical and contemporary works spanning a millennia.

Indigenous perspectives also play a major role in the museum. The largest exhibition space, the Ian Potter Gallery for temporary exhibitions, will showcase the University’s extensive holdings of art from the Yolŋu communities of eastern Arnhem land.

Indigenous ‘Ambassadors’, jointly curated displays dotted throughout the museum, were created by communities from across Australia to tell their own unique stories.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum is located opposite the University’s Quadrangle buildings. The entrance to the Museum is located on University Place, directly across from the Great Hall and Quadrangle lawns, and next to Fisher Library. The Museum building sits at the University Avenue campus entrance, off Parramatta Road and next to Baxter's Lodge and the historic gates.
