May excursion

The may excursion was to the museum in Sydney, the "Chau Chak Wing" Museum, located on the Sydney University campus on
Tuesday 25 May 2021. The Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney opened to the public in November 2020, it has free entry and brings together the University of Sydney's collections of antiquities, natural history, historic photographs, cultural artefacts and art .... and has its own cafe. The new museum draws on the Nicholson, Macleay and University Art collections.  The Nicholson Collection is the largest collection of antiquities in the southern hemisphere. The Macleay Collections include some of Australia’s most significant natural history objects. The University Art Collection comprises more than 8,000 historical and contemporary works spanning a millennia. Indigenous perspectives also play a major role in the museum. The largest exhibition space, the Ian Potter Gallery for temporary exhibitions, will showcase the University’s extensive holdings of art from the Yolŋu communities of eastern Arnhem land.  Indigenous ‘Ambassadors’, jointly curated displays dotted throughout the museum, were created by communities from across Australia to tell their own unique stories.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum is located opposite the University’s Quadrangle buildings. The entrance to the Museum is located on University Place, directly across from the Great Hall and Quadrangle lawns, and next to Fisher Library.
